Planet of the Ood by brainleakage
Planet of the Ood
Ok, I know that I'm a little behind the times to become a total fan girl of Dr Who, and please don't jump down my throat people.... but I JUST started binge watching on Netflix FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE and I'm super hooked. Watched 7 seasons in a month...

This is just a 2 hr speed paint from a screenshot I took of the episode "Planet of the Ood". I can't take credit for the awesome lighting, character design or cropping. I draw so many 'hot chicks' I'm trying to work on other humanoid-ish forms, too.
Himba Process
I haven't posted a progress lapse in a long long time. Sooooo, here it is. This took approx. 8hrs start to finish, created in PS6

Himba Woman
So I was reading this months' National Geographic and there was a feature on "First Art", the art created by primitive human tens of thousands of years ago. They were talking about natural pigments and 'crayons' that were used back then, and something that was popular was Ochre. Then there was a photograph of two Himba women, from Namibia, and I was enthralled by the women's custom of using Ochre to cover their hair in a beautiful way... I ended up scouring the internet to learn about them, and read up of their custom of creating dreadlocks using ground ochre, butter and either goat hair or Indian hair extensions.

Hello, and thanks for taking the trip to my page. I’m an Australia-based Art Director at indie gave dev Snowed in Studios with a Bachelors Degree in Design (BDes) and a major in Illustration from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, Canada.

My inspiration comes from almost anything. Lately, the subjects I’ve been especially interested in are traditional religious icon art, travel, tattoos and tattoo culture, and, of course, comic books and video games.

I consider myself to be both a commercial illustrator specializing in fashion, editorial, concept art and children’s illustration, as well as a fine artist exploring new and exciting applications for 2-D media.

My favourite thing to work with is a pencil, paper and pen, and most of my work has elements of these mediums, or has at least started that way. One day, I hope to learn the wonderful art of tattooing, but until then, I’ll continue to draw designs for other tattoo artists to apply.

In my spare time, I love to cook and bake, and absolutely adore discovering and trying new wines and beers. My husband and I love to travel, and are working our way through a list of 100 countries to visit before we die. The current count? Canada, USA, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Iceland, Holland, England, Belgium, Germany, Bulgaria, Turkey, France, Italy, Jamaica, Cuba, and Australia. 84 left to go…

Hey Everyone. So, it's been a couple of months (again) since my last very exciting journal entry. I had SO many requests for tattoo designs and it was really inspiring to work with so many different people to design so unique tattoos!

I have been toying with the idea of selling prints. I know, you're all thinking "Jump on that band wagon, Tara" and to that I would respond thusly:

I have been asked by a number of people why I don't sell prints, and the more that people ask, the more I have wondered why I haven't. However, I don't like the idea of mass producing and losing control of how many prints are out there. I really want to be able to tell buyers that I have personally signed and numbered each of these prints and that they are paying for professionally printed quality.

So, I'm putting a trial in place to see how the process goes.  I'm choosing my top 5 pieces that I think would make a fantastic piece of art for someone's wall (or ceiling... or door....) I'm going to create a journal showcasing these images, and a poll and I would like all of you to vote on saying which one you think would make the best print, and that you would be interested in buying if I were to make said prints.

I will then print 10 (that's right, only TEN) of that winning print and see how long it will take to sell them off. Depending on my responses, and on my turn around, there may be more prints in the future.

Also, what do you guys think of DA Prints? Has anyone every bought one?

Stayed tuned!
